SAVE A MATE
-STRENGTH THROUGH MATESHIP-
join in dudes and dudets!
its been a fun/interesting journey with the planing of the 2016 scooter ride trying to organize/ feel where save a mate scooter ride should be.
and i have come to the happy idea that, if i am unable to host workshops/talks in all the towns originally intended then i will do what i did back in 2010 when i rode a single speed beach cruiser from Gold coast to Melbourne. And that is... just stop and talk to towns people wherever. If i have to park the scooter in a park and approach people off the street then so be it.
the only differences with this ride is i am not on a single speed beach cruiser but on a 50cc scooter. Those that may remember when I'd ridden the bike, I wont be donating all my cold weather clothing to those who'd need them this time tho!. As the last time i did that... it made me pretty cold when I'd made it further south.
here is the latest addition to the I CARE short film.
Hello all who read this, if you can take a photo of yourself with a sign saying I CARE, then that would be excellent!
The count down is slowly making its way to zero with the scooter ride to go ahead on October 10th, so if people would still like to contribute to the I CARE short film then the time is now.
I must say that i am pretty stoked to see the hommie Citizen Kay show his contribution to the I CARE film.
We are all on this lovely land together, show the world that no matter where they are you care.
It’s a lovely thing to see when all the effort put into something begins to show off, save a mate may never be something for the masses but it will always be for the people it is intended for. And when you see ordinary folk taking interest in suicide prevention and the support gathering behind Save a mate, then it’s an extraordinary vision to see.
One bloke I spoke to last night made things seem all so achievable. Like myself he came into his passion without any formal training but of just a desire to see change. And like save a mate he kept it as grass roots as possible to maximize the impact on the people needing the help.
For anyone out there who follows Save a mate or has an interest in helping others, never feel that it is not achievable or senseless to have a crack and helping society. We run our lives too much in our own worlds, worried about what the other may think and where we fit in. But if you feel as I do and as plenty of others do. Then just step aside from that world and share your life with others.
Let’s be mates to everyone and let’s contribute to our fellow beings
On a side note!
Check out these beauties, I sure hope when the dude behind you is in the bumper to bumper traffic that they (take a mental note of saveamate.org) and check it out when they are not sitting in their car!
what a great day today has been to see twenty saveamate.org stickers being brought by Patriot Environmental Management. thank you to HR Jess and owner Brett there for pushing for Save a mate being noticed.
#save.a.mate, 50cc scooter, lots of hills, lots of traffic and I'm sure lots of interesting times ahead.
lessons learned from the 2008 ride are
1. 50cc scooters were never intended to be sat on for long periods of time.
2. when your carburetor is no longer a carburetor then pull out the sauce bottle, puncture some air holes in and zip tie it on.
3. wearing a heavy backpack and standing up whilst boasting that your in the lead of your mate never ends well.
4. when you get a flat tire and close to the finish line... leave scooter in the bush and complete the task at hand on foot.
and 5. prepare yourself for meeting some wonderful and strong battlers and some lovely people who just want a chat.
the 2016 suicide prevention scooter ride is coming along smoothly.
there is a fair bit going on in the background with organizing suitable locations to hold workshops and talks. We will prevail in the end
well I am glad to say that we now have 4 folk on the i care film!
the goal is over 20! 30 would be grouse! if you know of someone who would like to participate in showing the world you care about other everyday folk then please take a photo holding a sign saying 'i care', however you like! you can be in a group, up a tree, at the kitchen table, in the office... it doesn't matter, as long as you are in the photo with a sign saying i care then i can add it.
and then send it to firstname.lastname@example.org or via the Facebook page or you can send it via text message to 0408077297.
give it a go! you have nothing to loose in joining a movement of caring about others so just take that photo and send it in :)
