CHECK THEM OUT AS CONSTANT UPDATES ARE OCCURRING!
4 days to go!
Ive pretty much finished up with my night shifts until the end of the ride so i get 4 days to re-organize my body clock into day shift mode and then hit the road with two wheels.
The way my emotions seem to function tho is i tend to not feel the excitement and nerves that i should throughout the planning side of things and instead nine times out of ten will have a freak out the night prior to something happening.
that said, i have planned, re planned and then checked again the things i feel i should be planning. So i feel content that enough has been done in order to successfully complete this 50cc scooter ride to highlight the importance of mate-ship when it comes to suicide prevention.
its a simple view that we can all achieve. To treat those around you as you would your mates. To go out of your own social boundaries and widen your own network to everyone around. Allow yourself the time to think about those around your town, city and general area and to ensure that everyone, Young, Old and no matter what circumstances they come from is living their lives.
give the warmth someone will feel when they see that you (someone they don't know, or maybe someone they do know). will actually give the time to ask if they are okay and follow up.
Save A Mate suicide prevention hopes to start at the beginning and not at the crisis point. To allow those around who are doing it tough to have the nurture from the start and to just give everyone the time of day.
in a nut shell.... just be a bloody kind to folk!
the count down continues.
as of now this is where ill roughly be.. dependent on weather (which at the moment is the main concern).
leaving Brisbane on the 10th of October and straight for Toowoomba,
ill be in Toowoomba until lunch time of the 11th at the Toowoomba Club-house and then head for Goondiwindi in which ill set up a stall outside of the Co-op: 6 Herbert St, Goondiwindi QLD 4390 on the 12th until lunch time and then will have to head off straight for Narrabri to have a talk on 2Maxfm. ill be spending the night in Narrabri and head off early morning of the 13th.
from Narrabri ill be riding straight down the Newell highway to Coonabarrabran to tag along with an anti bullying campaign where ill be able to set up another stall/ spend the night of the 13th.
departing around 8am on the 14th will then see the 50cc head straight for Gillgandera for the night, in which loose plans have been made for another bike stall set up within the town.
the 15th will see me heading from Gillgandera to Dubbo for a rest and then continue onto Wellington to talk to folk that afternoon in the Wellington information and neighborhood services. ill be parked up until the 17th and then head straight for Canberra to then set up a stall within the city center/ talk out of the Belconnen Community Center.
departing Canberra on the 18th and head south towards Cooma and then attempt to get over the highlands and park up around Crackenback.
Crackenback is a rest stop where while i am down there i have plans to hike it up to the top of Mt Kosciusko. i have from the 19th-21st within this area so it should be achievable.
after the break ill be headed inland to eventually make Albury by the 22nd-23rd in which ill be setting up a stall located on the western side of town (actual location will be known on the 10th of October).
depart Albury early on the 24th and head for Seymour to set up the last stall of the journey.
camp out on the 24th and then early morning ill be departing Seymour for Melbourne by the 25th.
once arrived in Melbourne ill be riding circles around the city until i have had enough of riding around the city... and as of yet.... that's whats the plan is.
(possibly absolutely hate the scooter and burn it or maybe have grown fond of the thing and will ship it back up north. either way the 2016 save a mate scooter ride will be complete).
"Be the change you want to see in the world"
just under two weeks to go, I have been contacting as many trucking companies as I can that use the Newell highway as that will be the main route for the scooter.
that said, I have just had a rather stern talk with the road police over my intentions
and a good point was raised. 50cc scooters and trucks do not mix, nor do 50cc and caravans, trailers and the like.. one thing i am very glad of is every route i have chosen is a scooter able pass so other then the dangers of being side swiped... its all going to go as planned.
first stop on the trip will be the Toowoomba Club-house which by what I have heard do an amazing job in assisting members with a lived experience of mental illness to reach their full potential.
really keen to get onto the open road and just enjoy the journey.
well the scooter ride is bearing down faster every day.
and nothing more motivating to get the brain working then when you realize that matching up event times and so forth with also trying to picture realistic times in riding a 50cc becomes a reality.
onwards and upwards.
well its the lead up to the October 10th 50cc suicide prevention scooter ride.
things have slowly been coming together, i am very happy to have been invited to attend the Oakey RUOKAY day.
thanks again Helen for inviting me out. the community in Oakey is a grouse one.
hope to see you all soon for the Fight Against Depression fight night. by the sounds of things its a lovely night out.
super rad to have the support from Vans with this ride. The ride will see me talking to quite a few kids along the way, so to be able to install in them that this message of mate-ship and caring is much larger then myself in front of them saying it, they can come away with not only direct suicide prevention related stickers and some nifty bracelets but also some cool Vans stickers.
Its cool to see so many folk care about suicide prevention and it doesn't discriminate on where those folk are from.
suicide prevention and forming mate-ship is something for us all to participate in.
